Game Overview NEWS
Fresno State vs. Cincinnati
Published by Admin on September 26, 2009
The Cincinnati Bearcats lead by Brian Kelly look to improve their record to 4-0 after this weeks game against the Bulldogs which will be played at Saturday, September 26 at noon EST.
In the past couple of weeks, Fresno State has had trouble holding people at the line. The Bulldogs have also been throwing to many interceptions while the Cincinnati Bearcats have shown to come up with a lot the past weeks.
Last week Fresno State gave up 2 kick off returns against Boise State. Cincinnati is currently 3-0 and is ranked #14, while Fresno State is only 1-2 coming off back-to-back loses.
This definitely looks as if these teams are polar opposites. Last year while the Bulldogs (7-6) played in the “New Mexico Bowl”, while the Cincinnati Bearcats (11-3) played in something called the “Orange Bowl”.
But, I wouldn’t take Fresno State as a walk over in the schedule. Even though they took a tough loss to now #8 Boise State, they still managed to gain 507 yards against the nations #6 ranked defense. However, the Cincinnati Bearcats have proven not to be taken lightly. They were victorious over Oregon State last week who hadn’t lost a non-conference home game since 1996.
Cincinnati Defense
Here is what it takes to be the #6 ranked defense in the nation:
- 12 Pounts
- 271 total yards
- 69.3 rushing yards
- 7 interceptions
- 11 sacks
These are the numbers that the Bearcats have averaged to hold their opponents on game day.
Some Honorable Mentions include:
- Andre Revels (Linebacker): 21 tackles
- Alex Daniels (Lineman): 15 tackles, 1.5 sacks
- Robby Armstrong (Linebacker): 15 tackles
- Walter Stewert (Linebacker: 3 sacks
- Ricardo Mathews (Tackle) 2.5 sacks
- Aaron Webster (Safety): 2 interceptions
- J.K. Schaffer (Linebacker) 2 interceptions
The Bulldogs
Ryan Colburn (QB) has shown to struggle a little only hitting 41 of his last 74 passes while throwing 6 interceptions. This only accounts for 637 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Ryan Mathews however, has been averaging 269.7 yards a game and the Bulldog offense has produced an average of 495.3 yards again.
Ryan Mathews Against Boise State
Ryan Mathews is no joke. Only standing 5-11 and 220 pounds, the Bulldogs Junior scored 3 touchdowns against Boise State which were all 60 yards or more. Overall he had carried the ball 14 times and had 227 yards. In the Season Mathews has 49 total carries and a total of 447 yards.
