Fresno State vs. UC Davis

Published by Admin on September 5, 2009

The Fresno State Bulldogs are going to be the Dark horse of NCAA College Football this year. Pat Hill has done a tremendous job in creating a winning team.

Before this season starts off, note that Fresno State is the second most winning team against Bowl Championship Series teams. They have won 14 games in the past 10 years, which is the second most from any team not in the BCS.

The Bulldogs will be hosting the Aggies at home at Fresno State at 7:00 p.m. UC Davis will be the underdogs in this game and will try to overcome the challenge ahead of them. Fresno State on the other hand will try to gain momentum for the next three games. The Bulldogs play Wisconsin (September 12th), Boise State (September 18th), and Cincinnati (September 26th). Boise State is the defending Western Athletic Conference (WAC) champions.

There is no doubt that Fresno State have a hard schedule right off the bat. This year the Associated Press ranked Boise State #14 and Cincinnati is ready to improve on their last season after going 11-3.

Fresno State
After a long summer and all the commotion, we will finally get to see Quaterback Ryan Colburn (Junior) start. During the off season there was confusion as to which quaterback would start the 2009 season – Derek Carr (Freshman), Ebahn Feathers (Freshman), or Ryan Colburn (Junior).

Last year Fresno stat had a mediocre record of 7-6 under Tom Brandstater as QB. Brandstater had 18 touchdowns and 2,664 passing yards. If the Bulldogs wish to improve on their 2008 season, Ryan Colburn will have to put up better numbers tha nTom Brandstater.

We can’t forget about wide receiver Seyi Aijrotutu who had 47 catches for a total of 795 yards and 5 touchdowns last season. Ryan Mathews is also returning after rushing for 616 yards with 6 touchdowns last season.

This definitely will be an interesting season for the Bulldogs depending if everyone stays healthy.

1952 All Over Again
Both California teams have not played each other since 1952. Hopefully UC Davis can put up some numbers since their last time playing Fresno. In 1952 UC Davis was held to 7 points with a loss over the Bulldogs 41-7
