Ryan graduated from West High School in Bakersfield, California and was recruited by Tom Simons and committed to Fresno State on January 19th, 2007. Ryan had offers from Arizona State, Colorado, Nevada, San Diego State, Washington, and UCLA. In high school Ryan rushed for 1,104 yards and scored 18 touchdowns in West High Schools CIF 2005 championship season. In the CIF Championship game Mathews scored 6 touchdowns, and rushed for 250 yards to help win over Tulare Union.

Ryan Mathews has proven to be top dog at Fresno State and is putting together an “all-american” season. Currently a Junior, Ryan is leading the nation in Rushing Yards averaging 162.33 yards per game, and is definitely going to be one of the top prospects for the next NFL draft.
